Birmingham will play host to a number of global medallists in this year’s women’s 800m Diamond Race, with current world champion Marina Arzamasova (BLR) joined by world indoor champion Francine Niyonsaba (BDI), 2013 world champion Eunice Sum (KEN) and Great Britain’s Lynsey Sharp.
Sum appears in fine form going into the meet, with the Kenyan’s last two Diamond League appearances in Doha and Rabat yielding two consecutive season’s bests for the 2015 world bronze-medallist. Ahead of Sum at Rabat’s meeting was Burundian Niyonsaba, with the current world indoor champion aiming to repeat the feat in Birmingham to take maximum Diamond Race points.
Arzamasova (BLR) and Melissa Bishop (CAN) go head-to-head once again following their respective gold and silver victories at Beijing 2015, whilst European silver-medallist Lynsey Sharp (GBR) will be aiming to improve on her fifth place finish in Rabat last month.
Having started the year strongly with silver at the World Indoor Championships in Portland, Ajee Wilson (USA) will be looking to put distance between herself and fellow countrywomen Laura Roesler and Chanelle Price in Birmingham. Roesler also competed in Portland, narrowly missing out on bronze.
On the back of a new personal best and third place finish at the Rabat Diamond Race, Renelle Lamote (FRA) will be keen to push herself against some of the world’s best once again, with Joanna Jozwik (POL) joining Lamote to complete a highly competitive field.
