All four gold medallists from Britain’s World Championship winning men’s 4x100m relay team, and the silver medal winning women’s sprint quartet, will celebrate in style at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday 20 August.
First and second leg runners CJ Ujah (Coach: Stuart McMillan) and Adam Gemili (Rana Reider) will race in the 100m, while third leg athlete Danny Talbot (Benke Blomkvist) and anchor Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Dennis Shaver) will line up in the 200m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting next weekend.
The men’s quartet produced an outstanding performance to take victory in front of an ecstatic home crowd in the London Stadium, in a British and European record of 37.47 seconds, and the third fastest time ever run for the event.
Danny Talbot said: “This is the best feeling ever and it will take a while to sink in that we’re the world champions. We’ll still be celebrating when we all line up at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham next weekend so it will be a huge party.”
He added: “All the guys ran amazing legs and to do it in London in front of a home crowd is something we’ll never forget. We’re all going to enjoy ourselves at the Alexander Stadium and the fans that didn’t get a chance to see us at the World Championships will hopefully give us a great reception at our last UK meet of the season.”
Earlier in the evening the women’s team of Asha Philip (Steve Fudge), Desiree Henry (Rana Reider), Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) and Daryll Neita (Jonas Dodoo) had set the standard, with a superb run to claim the silver medal behind the USA.
The Olympic bronze medal winning quartet from Rio, once again showed their quality clocking 42.12 seconds to finish a head of the Jamaicans who took the bronze.
The four world silver medal winning stars will all race in the women’s 100m at the Alexander Stadium next Sunday.
Asha Philip said: “To win a world silver medal as part of this amazing relay team was incredible, and we’re all going to be racing at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham next week, so we’ll get another chance to celebrate together. We’ll be lining up against each other as well as the some of the world’s best sprinters and it’ll be a great opportunity to thank the British fans for their awesome support this year.”
A host of new world medallists and Olympic stars will compete at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, which will be the finale to an outstanding summer of global athletics events in the UK and include Mo Farah’s last ever track race on home soil.
The Müller Grand Prix Birmingham is supported by Birmingham City Council and takes place exactly one week after the end of the IAAF World Championships in London which run from 4-13 August.
