Birmingham’s Müller Grand Prix will play host to a fine blend of track and field disciplines when the IAAF Diamond League series heads to the Alexander Stadium in 2018.
Today, revealing the 14 Diamond League events that are to take place come Saturday 18 August, the Grand Prix is sure to continue growing its reputation as a magnet for the world’s best track and field athletes on the back of playing host to seven national records, eight world leading results and nine meeting records since 2015.
A meeting which continues to attract the world’s best athletes – 2017’s edition played host to countless newly crowned world champions, while Sir Mo Farah used the intimate setting of the Alexander Stadium as his final race on the track in the UK – the event offerings in 2018 look set to make for another memorable day of world-class athletics. .
On the track, sprint and hurdles action will come in abundance as the men’s 100m, 400m and 110m hurdles are accompanied by the women’s 200m and 400m hurdles. Elsewhere, the world’s best middle distance specialists will flex their muscles when the men’s 3000m steeplechase and women’s 1500m and 5000m take centre stage.
Out in the field, the presence of the men’s high jump is sure to provoke a wealth of interest following Mutaz Essa Barshim’s stunning world lead clearance at 2.40m at the 2017 Grand Prix, while the women’s shot put and men’s javelin events will offer spectators the opportunity to witness the skill and power of world-class throwers up close.
