Birmingham adds four additional events to 2019 programme

In accompaniment to the main IAAF Diamond League programmed events, a number of exciting events have now been added to the programme ahead of this year’s Muller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday 18 August.

Historically a meet that has played host to the world’s best athletes, including British endurance stars Sir Mo Farah and Laura Muir, world 800m record holder David Rudisha and throwing greats such as Olympic champions Valerie Adams and Thomas Rohler, 2019 promises to be no different.

Taking place in the intimate setting of the Alexander Stadium - and joining the 13 events that were announced on the bill of the event back in November - four additional events have been added to the programme for 2019.

Heading up the quartet of additions is the women’s 100m, an event always sure to generate excitement due to both the wealth of home-grown talent in Britain and the global sprint stars that are always keen to be present in Birmingham.

Like-wise, the presence of the men’s 110m hurdles on the programme will also generate much interest.

Given that a quick scan down the all-time list for the event serves to show many athletes who are currently competing and active – namely Aries Merritt (USA, world record holder), Omar McLeod (JAM, 5th quickest ever), Sergey Shubenkov (ANA, 10th quickest ever) and Orlando Ortega (ESP, 14th quickest ever) – the likelihood that some of the fastest hurdlers in history will be present in Birmingham later this year is high.

Finally, and joining the women’s equivalents on the bill, both the men’s 800m and 1500m will serve to showcase the very best middle distancer runners in the world.

Disciplines that have attracted the likes of the great Rudisha alongside the likes of global medallists Nijel Amos and Adam Kszczot , the two events will add further middle distance spice to the event alongside the aforementioned women’s equivalents plus the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
